Mental Health Disorders Are
More Common in Young People than Many Realize:
Studies
show that at least one in five children and adolescents has a mental
health disorder.¹
At least one in 10, or about 6 million people, has a serious emotional
disturbance.¹
The future of our country depends on the mental health and strength of
our young people. Here are more startling statistics:
43%
of untreated hyperactive boys are arrested for a felony by age 16 and at
least 50 % of prison inmates have ADHD. 2
Students that spend no time in extracurricular activities, compared to those
who do, are 6 times more likely to have dropped out of school and 75% more
likely to smoke cigarettes and use drugs by senior year.
